¿Cuánto pesa su edificio, Señor Foster?

A BEAUTIFUL MOVIE ABOUT THE END OF THE WORLD

Let us get it over with right away. The end of Lars von Trier's film 'Melancholia'. Everybody dies. Not just the guests at the grand wedding held in the first part of the film at an ever-so-romantic castle surrounded by a golf course. And not just all life on Earth. For in the world evoked by the Danish film maker this time, we are absolutely alone in the universe. So what ends in our planet's cosmic embrace with the ten times bigger planet, Melancholia, is life as such and our recollection of it.
No ending could be more final. And, as Trier remarks with a black humour germane to him:
»In a way, the film does have a happy ending.«

Daniel Libeskind | 17 palabras de inspiración arquitectónica

TEDtalk · Daniel Libeskind's 17 words of architectural inspiration

Architecture is not based on concrete and steel and the elements of the soil. It's based on wonder. And that wonder is really what has created the greatest cities, the greatest spaces that we have had. And I think that is indeed what architecture is. It is a story. By the way, it is a story that is told through its hard materials. But it is a story of effort and struggle against improbabilities. If you think of the great buildings, of the the cathedrals, of the temples, of the pyramids, of pagodas, of cities in India and beyond, You think of how incredible this is that that was realized not by some abstract idea, but by people.

And I therefore believe that optimism is what drives architecture forward. It's the only profession where you have to believe in the future. You can be an general, a politician, an economist who is depressed, a musician in a minor key, a painter in dark colors. But architecture is that complete ecstasy that the future can be better. And it is that belief that I think drives society.

The Talks · Great new site*

Tom Ford

Mr. Ford, have you had a midlife crisis?
Yes. Leaving Gucci was devastating for me. Devastating because I had really put everything into that for fifteen years and all of a sudden I had no identity. “Who am I? What am I doing? I have no forum to speak to anyone anymore or to convey my thoughts or ideas.” Maybe I drank a little too much – living in London that’s a very easy thing to do. The emphasis in my life maybe switched to things that were not the important things. So yeah, I had a bit of a midlife crisis. I wish there was a better term for that. It comes to everybody, maybe in your thirties, maybe in your forties, maybe in your sixties or seventies, who knows. You get to the moment where you feel the clock is ticking and you are wondering if you are really getting the most out of your life.

Jack Nicholson

What’s your secret?
I’m available.

Sofia Coppola

How did you find your own way?
It took me a while; I just tried different things. I moved away from home, went to college, and even started my own clothing company that had partners in Japan, but once I made my first short film I just knew. And finding the book The Virgin Suicides was the turning point actually because I loved that book and felt protective over it.

Zac Posen

What were some things that had to shut down?
For example I created a fragrance that never launched. I worked on the packaging directly with Fabien Baron for a year. I have had these experiences with people and I am really relieved that some of them didn’t happen. It is what it is. If a company closes, a company closes. Thank god you own the juice you worked on.

Valentino

When you started your career as a young man in Paris, did you ever think that you would become such a brilliant, internationally recognized legend?
My dear, when you start it’s quite difficult to dream for everybody. But of course you have aspirations.

If the young Valentino could meet you today, what would he think?
I think he would be very, very happy because I was always a very big dreamer. I was always dreaming of beauty. My mother used to say, you think of stupid things all the time.

The most architectural thing :: ropes and rules (╯3╰)

The game of architecture is an intricate

Play with rules that you may break or accept.

These rules, like so many knots that cannot

Be untied, have the erotic significance of

bondage: the more numerous and sophisticated

The restraints, the greater the pleasure.

Game Called Life por 'LEFTOVER CUTIES'

#chan!

Kicking Off

Some people dream of success, others make it happen. Of course, you can dream as much as you like but waiting for things to happen gets you nowhere. Get active and start making things happen.

Whatever journey your path takes you on, the most important thing is to have passion in what you do.

How many of you went to college, got your degree, and ended up doing something totally unrelated to your major? Studying it did not make you passionate about it. It wasn’t your path.

Education or even talent aren’t worth much without passion. So do the stuff that you love and you’ve always wanted to do because without it, you’ll feel stuck and unfulfilled. If you work in a bank but your dream is to be a naturopath, then make those changes now. Make this year the turning point in your life. When you do what you love you will be rewarded — it will just flow naturally.

Look at those around you who just make things happen. They have a clear goal in mind and they know where they want to go. They don’t always have a plan but they have the passion and the tenacity to make it work, and they achieve their goals as the end result.

Trust us when we tell you this. If something important to you, you WILL find a way. If it isn’t, you’ll find an excuse. It’s that simple. Find your way. Make it work, whatever it takes. Are you 10 kilos heavier than you should be? It is simple: Commit, go to that gym every day, no excuses, and train until you lose those 10 kilos. When you accomplish this, you’ll have the confidence to do more. Set a goal and make it happen.

Want to stop smoking? Stop making excuses, take control of your circumstances before they take control of you.

Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life, it’s about what you inspire others to do and when you do accomplish something as simple as quitting smoking or losing weight, you’ll inspire others to do the same. Anyone can change the world, and everybody should try. And it all starts with your own life.

Stop waiting for the perfect time to do what you want to do. Do it now.
